Table Manners…

filed under:

I looove food and preparing home cooked meals… and my son would choose home made over fast food any day… which is pretty awesome.

He’s all about fish and veggies and fruit… when we’re grocery shopping, I’d ask him if he wanted anything from the cookies & chips aisle and he’d always answer, “No thank you… I really want more blueberries and Fuji apples!”

Neat, huh?

Anyway, I grew up being told what to eat and HOW to eat it… cut it like this, mix it like that, pour it over from this side, and chew like this. When I sit down to eat with my mom, she *still* questions how I eat my food… lol. Seriously… who cares? They all end up in the same place anyway! 🙂

I don’t do that with my child. I put food on his plate and he’s free to eat it anyway he wants, given that he shows respect at the dinner table. (That’s NO chewing with your mouth open, speaking with your mouth full, stuffing your face, and shoving an entire piece of steak in your mouth without slicing it into reasonable sized pieces is definitely not allowed…) If your kid is eating what you give him… with respect… there is absolutely NO REASON to “take control” of how he eats.

I’ve learned to choose my battles… and how my child chooses to consume his food does not fall into the “let’s argue about this” category. 🙂

Eat, love, and enjoy each other’s company!
